An ongoing research project that took shape as part of an original academic course at the Technion Faculty of Architecture.
Course summary:
The boundaries between the physical and the digital worlds are becoming transient, more fluid. Most of us live in hybrid, phygital environments. The relationships between the different realities deeply change the way we perceive ourselves and the space around us. Moreover, this diffusion changes space itself, profoundly, as well as the way we experience it, design it, and live it. This course presents an overview of the complex relationships between the physical and the digital world, between biology and technology, between nature and culture. It explores the ways in which these relationships present themselves in space and redefine the essence and the tools of design and architecture.
What kids of architectural and urban typologies are emerging along with technology? Does the Cloud affect the urban structure? How does Instagram change the way we design? What does it mean that we live in the Experience Economy? What is the role of code in our lives? What is augmented reality and how does it change both the way we experience space and the way we design it? These are just some of the questions the course will try to address, from deep ecology to the Metaverse.
The course will combine lecture, discussion, and a personal project.
