The digital exhibit at the Estuarium at Pier 26 transports visitors out of their everyday lives into the little known world of the Hudson River Estuary. Created from the seemingly simple meeting of freshwater from the river and saltwater from the ocean, the estuary is one of the most productive and dynamic ecosystems on earth – and most of us don’t even realize we live near one.
Content Architecture:
Contrary to the perception that nature is confined to Central Park in Manhattan, the natural environment and the built environment are far more intertwined than we even realize. From the life teeming below the water to the life swarming up on the land, everything connects through the watershed. What is on the land is in the water – we are part of the estuary and the estuary is part of us.
Diving into the unfamiliar world underwater and re-emerging back on land, the digital exhibit invites visitors on an immersive and interactive journey to experience the invisible dynamics of the living estuary. Using the latest cutting-edge technology to make the invisible visible, visitors explore the vital interdependencies in the system and the essential role they play in shaping its future.
